fabUplus Magazine: What type of modeling do  you do? How did you get started as a model? What’s an average work week like for you?

Iris Perez: I currently do commercial modeling but I also enjoy the runway.

Modeling really started by chance to be honest. I was doing my very first photo shoot with my son one day just to help my makeup business. So after we were done we wanted to get some snacks so we went to Walgreens. My daughter suggested I should pretend the isle was the runway and honestly it sounded like so much fun! So she brings out her phone and I start walking (my walk was horrible btw) we posted it on Instagram and BOOM, the very first person that caught her eyes on my video was Dionne Reeves CEO of Full Figured Fierce. She invited me to come compete for the anual Curvy Girl Walk Off she has every year in celebration of our local Full Figured Empowerment Week. That moment I walked on that runway I knew this was going to be a wonderful relationship between myself and modeling. Ever since that day modeling has become my passion.

On a normal week I would work in the lab assisting with patients of all ages Monday thru Friday. But on Tuesdays and Wednesday’s I take time to work on new makeup looks and styles that way I can have great content for my beauties. Every other weekend on Saturdays I set up photo shoots and on Sundays I try to always have family time. Because as som e of you know I have 3 daughters and two teens that need as much attention they can get! Oh and did I mention that I’m also a Glamma!? Don’t ask my age… I’m still young!

fabUplus Magazine: Describe your personal style. What are some of your signature colors, styles, and accessories?

Iris Perez: I honestly love changing up my style. One day I can be blonde, or a red head or just a brunette! I also enjoy playing with different colors and patterns. I honestly don’t believe in having any rules when it comes to fashion. Just be YOURSELF!

My favorite colors are red and black. You might notice I love wearing red lipstick. I’ve heard it’s my signature look.

Last but not least, bold earrings are a plus for me! I love me a pop of color or even feathers!

fabUplus Magazine: If you could go back in time and give yourself advice as a little girl, what would you tell her?

Iris Perez: If I was to go back and give myself advice as a little girl I would tell her not to worry about these humans that treat you the way they do. You will grow up to be so beautiful and so strong! Don’t you ever EVER doubt yourself. Because YOU WILL overcome this battle.

fabUplus Magazine: For our readers who struggle with being comfortable in their own skin and wearing what they want, what are some practical things you would recommend they do to help them get to the level of confidence you have?

Iris Perez: #1 thing I had to learn was to love myself. I learned to look at myself in the mirror and made myself say 5 positive things about myself every day. Having true friends that love you for who you are is also a plus. I found other curvy women and men that inspired me. Liris Crosse, Ady Del Valle, Madeline Jones and Ashley Graham have always been my inspiration.

fabUplus Magazine: What does life look like for you outside of blogging or modeling (day job, hobbies, family life, etc)?

Iris Perez: Outside of modeling I am a freelance makeup artist. Avant-garde is by far my favorite because I can do so much more within my imagination. I’m also a lab/X-ray technician at a family practice. Lately it has been a little crazy with what’s happening but I’m proud to help in the frontline.

Im a mom of 3 teenage girls and I have a son that I didn’t birth but he is the make version of me! You would think I actually birthed him! I’m also a Glamma if an 8 month old baby that I love more than my own kids! (Please don’t tell them shhh) I try to spend every Sunday with them as much as I can because we all know that once you become an adult it’s time to spread your wings and create your own journey. To be honest, I’m lucky to have them.

fabUplus Magazine: What  does being an influencer or model mean to you? What do you hope it means to others?

Iris Perez: Being a model means being an example to women like myself. I want to inspire other women to be themselves. I want them to be who they always dreamed of being. It’s never too late!

fabUplus Magazine: How has body image and self-esteem changed over the years?

Iris Perez: If you would have met me 10 years ago you would have never imagined seeing the person I have became today. I was always so insecure and didn’t believe in myself. Never in a million years did I believe that I can model, or even inspire anyone. But if it wasn’t for the support I have and my willingness to succeed I wouldn’t be here today.
