About:

Born in Mississauga, Ontario, Caterina has been modeling since 2013. Her modelling collaborations include retail, design, editorial, print and runway. Born in an Italian family, fashion and style have always been a huge part of her upbringing, and modelling, for Caterina is a natural extension of that culture. She loves fashion, networking and anything that elevates the curvy woman.
Questions:
Congratulations on all of your success as a Plus Size Model. How did you get started modelling?
I saw a casting call on Facebook to model for Voluptuous Inc., I went and I got it!
What has been your favourite experience thus far – the one you are most proud of?
This past spring I was so happy to be chosen to walk the runway for Penningtons, Toni Plus and Callista Bridal in the Curvy Expo. It was such a great experience from the venue to the clothing to the support of the plus size community and all the amazing people I met. I would like to thank Meghan Bradley, the woman behind The Curvy Expo. She was an important part of why I had such a wonderful experience.
Just like any craft there is a learning curve – how did you learn how to model – both print and runway if applicable?
Practice practice practice! No matter what you’re doing it only gets better with practice.
Did you have mentors or role models who helped and inspired you along the way?
Stefanie Augusteijn, owner of SexyPlus Clothing, has been an important part of my modelling journey. She’s so supportive and gives great advice. When it comes to role models, my mother has influenced the way I look at fashion. Her style, poise and elegance has played a huge role in my modelling and the way I live life.
The Plus Size Industry has changed and continues to evolve – how do you think as a model you are able to help make an impact in how the world sees plus size women?
I have received many messages from women around the world of different sizes expressing their gratitude for the work I do. I am so happy to be able to show women that confidence is beautiful.
You exude confidence with every step you take, were you always this confident? Tell us a little bit about the journey to confidence.
I would like to speak to all the parents out there with daughters. Tell them they are beautiful both inside
and out. Tell them they are smart. Tell them they are strong. Everyday my father would smile and say “La Bell”
(beautiful) in his Southern Italian dialect, among other compliments. The first man in my life thought I was beautiful, looking back he was instrumental in shaping my confidence.
For our readers who are interested in starting a plus model career, what would you suggest are some top tips to get started?
Hire a photographer and start creating a portfolio. Go to as many casting calls as you can and begin networking with other plus size models. If they are anything like the models here in Toronto they will be supportive and helpful.
As a model you’ve had the opportunity to wear a variety of different styles, but what would we catch you in on an “off duty day?” What would you call your fashion sense and how has this evolved through your modelling career?
When I am off duty I go to the gym so I’m usually in active wear. A great pair of workout leggings and my
boxing hoodie. However, when I want to dress up for dinner or dancing, I tend to lean towards form fitting, figure flattering pieces. Anything from bodycon dresses to a great fitting pair of high waisted jeans.
What are you some of your favourite places to shop your style?
SexyPlus Clothing, Penningtons and Winners have never let me down!

What does life look for you outside of the modeling world?
From Monday to Friday I am an educator in a Kindergarten class and I also volunteer my time at a boxing club as a coach and a mentor to young athletes.
Thank you for taking time to chat with us today! What is one message you would like to leave with our readers today?
I’d like to thank all the readers for taking the time to get to know me and for supporting FabUplus Magazine. This Magazine has made such a positive impact on the plus size world and I am so proud to be featured by them.
