Meet the radical Self Love Warrior Idaho Amy
Picture this…. It’s a busy market place in Boise, Idaho and as you saunter through the vendor isles you stop dead in your tracks. In front of you is a woman standing blindfolded in a bikini, a pen in each hand with a sign that says “If you have ever suffered from self-esteem issues like me, and believe all bodies are valuable, draw a heart on my body.” What happens next is truly amazing. People begin to line up and not only draw a heart on her but also body positive affirmations.
This is Amy-Pence Brown otherwise known as Idaho Amy. You may have already seen the video of this because it went viral and has been featured all over the world.
Amy Pence-Brown is at the forefront of body activism and stands up for what she believes in. She uses her popularity to spread the word, speak out and deliver a positive message, that all bodies are good bodies.
So what did it feel like on that day? Amy went into the day with some understandable fears, but all of those fears were washed away when people began to write.
There were many hearts drawn, others went further and wrote comments. Words such as “hope” “strength” “courage and love”. All of this has been about a connection – the struggles that others have had with self-esteem in their lives. When people share their experiences they can then become stronger together. The connection that real women make with each other over social media or the internet makes a difference in their lives. It affirms the fact that we are not alone and there are others that are going through similar experiences.
Amy describes herself as a “fat feminist mother who believes in opening her mouth and her heart.” She is a writer, a blogger, a tour guide, artist, historian, activist and many more things. She delivers a message of self-love through her activism and her writing, sending positive messages out to all the women of the world.
