Plus Size Model Feature: Mallory Richardson

Mallory Richardson is a Plus Petite model specializing in runway, print, and spokes-modeling. Mallory says, “I have something different to offer the industry as there aren’t many American Indian models, much less petite ones. I am also from an area that is behind the curve of industry developments for plus women. I see this as a challenge and an opportunity to really partner with brands that are available in my area to create more awareness around our needs as average sized women.”

Mallory got into modeling from her self-made styling career and interest in representing plus women from a standpoint of diversity and valuing representing women from all backgrounds, shapes, sizes, and heights. She was recently named the Face of Full Figured Fashion Week 2017, an experience she says was “incredible. My face was leveraged in social media and website campaigns for the annual week-long event, and I spent an entire week in NYC hosting, greeting, and celebrating the 9th-year anniversary of this illustrious event with models, bloggers, designers, and business people who are invested in the growth of the plus and body positive industries.”

Mallory says her journey to confidence has been “far from bright.” As a plus woman her entire life, she was always told her face was pretty – as if the rest of her wasn’t. Her weight fluctuated and she struggled to find clothes for the body she had as she ranged from a size 12 to a size 20. But for Mallory, the mindset around self-love and acceptance was the hardest part – and the most rewarding. She says, “It’s truly important to have a team of supportive people in your life to reiterate just how amazing you are, so you feel more confident than you did the day before about claiming the curves the Creator gave you. Mental illness is real, self-mutilation is real, and God has brought me from a really dark place to shed light for others in a new and more profound way… outreach and touching lives through fashion, my nonprofit organization, and speaking worldwide and thinking BIG!”
