Model Plus Sized – Jordan Hillam

Congratulations on all of your success as a Plus Size Model.  How did you get started modelling?

I started modeling when I was 15. I wasn’t quite plus size but I wasn’t straight size either. It was really difficult. I kept it up for 2 years and decided it wasn’t worth the time to be just another blonde haired blue eyed girl. So I stopped. Earlier this year I actually decided to give it a go again. This time around I am much more confident in myself and I’m having so much more fun.

What has been your favourite experience thus far – the one you are most proud of?

Honestly my favorite experience so far was The TCFStlye Expo in Atlanta. I had the fantastic opportunity to work with some amazing designers and businesses. Also I had an amazing opportunity to be in USA Today for a boutique in St. Louis called Honey’s Child Boutique

Just like any craft there is a learning curve – how did you learn how to model – both print and runway if applicable?

The print work comes much more naturally to me. I’ve always liked being in front of the camera but, runway is so much more difficult for me. I’m not the most graceful person in the world. Luckily pictures don’t catch that.

Did you have mentors or role models who helped and inspired you along the way?

I remember watching season 10 of America’s Next Top Model and seeing Whitney win. I had really never heard of plus size models and I was fascinated!!

The Plus Size Industry has changed and continues to evolve – how do you think as a model you are able to help make an impact in how the world sees plus size women?

I think all plus size models have a duty to show little girls that you don’t have to be rail thin to be beautiful. You can be completely comfortable in being you. You’re beautiful and there is no one in this world that can be you better than yourself.

You exude confidence with every step you take, were you always this confident?  Tell us a little bit about the journey to confidence.

I grew up with super supportive parents that always told me how beautiful and smart I was. I got to grow up with a fantastic amount of self-confidence and I cannot thank my parents enough for helping me be the way I am.

For our readers who are interested in starting a plus model career, what would you suggest are some top tips to get started?

Get in front of the camera! It may seem scary but it helps so much!

What would you call your fashion sense and how has this evolved through your modelling career?

I am a massive fan of riding boots, jeans, t-shirts and oversized cardigans. There’s something about knowing if you throw on a cardigan you look a little bit more put together. I’m also really preppy. I kind of dress like a rich kid in the south, thanks mom.

What are you some of your favourite places to shop your style?

Recently I’ve loved shopping at FTF and I could spend all day shopping ASOS, some days I do.

What does life look for you outside of the modelling world?

On a regular basis I am a counter manager for Clinique. I love being able to make people feel better about themselves inside and out.

Thank you for taking time to chat with us today!  What is one message you would like to leave with our readers today?

Never let anyone bring you down. Like I said before, there is no one in this world that is better at being you than you. Just remember there are so many people in the world that will try to change you but always be you!
