Spring Into Your Curves
with James Phelps and Anna Marx
James Phelps of Avalon Creative Arts teamed up with model and artist Anna Marx to create this stunning shoot inspired by Greek mythology. Anna had wanted to create a look inspired by Greek mythology for some time but wasn’t drawn to white linen or the toga look. Fortunately, Greek myths are a rich hunting ground for inspiration! The concept for this “goddess” shoot was heavily inspired by the Maenads: nymphs who followed and worshipped Dionysus, god of wine and indulgence. His entourage was known for being wild, chaotic, and prone to ecstatic indulgences.
Anna Marx, a model and “consummate artist,” came up with the concept and designed the costumes. She says she wanted to create something colorful and unique and looked to photos of wineries for inspiration. She says that “the pale lilac velveteen that coats the skin of many varieties of purple grapes caught my eye. Such a delicate color was very dreamlike, and fit well with the flowing fabric and leafy accents in this look.” James Phelps is a Baltimore-based photographer who loves working with “Real. Bodied. Ladies.” He says “I make pretty people… prettier,” and his shoots are varied in style and feeling.
