With the holidays well on their way to your doorstep, you may be struggling to think of ways to throw the perfect festive holiday party at home. We’re here to help you have a great time with your family and friends while enjoying the holiday season.

Plan Ahead

As with any successful party, you’ll want to plan for the big day well in advance. Unless you’re a master party planner who can throw something together in less than a few days, the prep time you put in before the big event will be your biggest asset.

Who are you inviting? Be sure to plan at least a few weeks out to give your guests enough time to RSVP or move their schedules around to attend.

Also, you don’t have to plan alone—make it more fun by arranging with a friend or family member to help lessen the load.

Set a Holiday Theme

Make your holiday party even more fun with a theme! You could incorporate ideas like:

  • White elephant gifts
  • An ugly sweater contest
  • A holiday movie watch party

Setting a theme for your party also helps to establish its mood and intention. If you’d like to exchange gifts, what are the rules? What is the maximum gift budget? By setting the rules ahead of time, you leave no room for confusion (or cheating!).

Go Buffet-Style

Let’s face it: everyone loves the holidays for the comfort food! Tasty turkey, butter-licious mashed potatoes, cookies, hot chocolate—you name it, and people will love it! The best way to serve your tasty meals and desserts is buffet-style so that your guests have plenty of food to choose from.

Decor Is Everything

Let’s be honest. It doesn’t feel like the most wonderful time of the year until you see twinkling lights and holiday decor waiting for us when we get home. The same applies to a festive party! Decorate your home with wreaths, garlands, lights, and a beautiful tree to really set the holly-jolly tone!

Even if you choose to have a more sophisticated holiday party, you’ll still want to hang up some decor and match your colors correctly.

Take It Outside

Baby, it’s cold outside, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay in! Add an element of surprise to your party by bringing it outdoors onto your deck. You can sip some hot cocoa or have a snowball fight—whichever suits your fancy. Just be sure you know these tips for making an amazing outdoor party deck!

Place outdoor heaters on your deck for added warmth so that the freezing weather doesn’t put a damper on your get-together!

For more ways to throw the perfect festive holiday party at home, ask your family and friends what they’d like to see at your party or if there’s anything you can do to make the celebration more fun!
