Landwhale Book Signing with Jess Baker
FabUplus attended Jess Baker’s book signing on May 24 for her book Landwhale! We have the exclusive review of her book in our Summer Issue which is on stands now!
An excerpt from the Landwhale write up by Alysse Dalessandro
“Landwhale is different in the fact that instead of offering ‘answers’ that others are looking for, I instead ask a lot of questions… ones that I have no idea how to solve,” Baker tells me. “So, while there are chapters that are complete stories: pieces of my childhood and revelations that came while writing, my experiences with fat sex and relationships, things I thought I couldn’t do but then did… there are also chapters about fat issues that are really just conversation starters.”
Reading Landwhale you can almost feel the raw emotion behind Baker’s words. She says she cried over the keyboard for weeks writing the chapter on her relationship with her dad. While she’s admittedly still healing certain wounds, the book feels complete; a true testament to what self-love looks like: a process.
