Dee is a published plus size model that has been modeling for several years.  As a plus size model Dee has always wanted to inspire other women who have meat on them. “I want them to look at a woman like me & realize that despite the rude remarks thrown your way that you ARE beautiful.”

Congratulations on all of your success as a Plus Size Model. How did you get started modeling?

It all started shortly after high school. I found photography & getting photos taken of myself to start to become a positive & creative outlet for me. As I started to work with new photographers I found that I started to become more passionate about photography. As the years went by I found myself becoming more & more passionate each time I worked with a new photographer.

Share with us what  has been your favorite experience thus far – the one you are most proud of?

The first time I ever got published in a magazine that exhibited all body types. It has been a goal that I have had for so long & I am so proud of myself for finally achieving what I set out to do. I would have never gotten there without the support from the photographer I worked with & with the support from the people I love.

Just like any craft there is a learning curve – how did you learn how to model – both print and runway if applicable?

I was self taught how to model. With each new shoot I find myself learning & growing as a model from the other plus size models that I look up to. Or even the photographers that I have worked with. It in my opinion is a team effort & I have learned so much about my body & how to pose myself every step of the way. Each shoot is a new learning experience.

Did you have mentors or role models who helped and inspired you along the way?

Yes I have had numerous mentors & role models that have helped me along the way. One of those role models being CM PUNK. He taught me to stand up for myself & to always know your worth even when others doubt you. Other role models would have to be other plus size models such as London Andrews or Ashley Graham, etc. Women that inspire me to be proud of my body & the woman that I am becoming.

The Plus Size Industry has changed and continues to evolve – how do you think as a model you are able to help make an impact in how the world sees plus size women?

I believe that I am helping to make an impact on how the world views plus size women because I encourage other plus women to focus on body acceptance as opposed to believing your own negative self talk. Do not allow other companies or people to profit off of your own self hatred. By doing these shoots I am showing other women self love & to appreciate all that your body can do. You cannot change the negative things people will have to say about your body. However, you can learn to accept yourself & to wear clothing that makes you feel good about your body as opposed to accepting clothing materials that make you feel negative about yourself.

You exude confidence with every step you take, were you always this confident? Tell us a little bit about the journey to confidence.

I was told all my life that I was never good enough & that I was ugly. I turned that around to be a positive. As I started creating more art I started to discover how beautiful I truly was & that it didn’t matter what ugly hearted people thought of me. All that mattered is how I see myself. I find photography is a way that I escape & express myself. I want women to know that they are NOT alone. And despite the names people call you, you are still beautiful & worthy. To not let others, try to change you, to embrace your curves, your own beauty & who you are.

For our readers who are interested in starting a plus model career, what would you suggest are some top tips to get started?

If you are passionate about starting a career in plus size modeling, then I would suggest this. Learn as much as you can from other models & photographers. Don’t let anyone tell you that your dreams are unreachable or not worthwhile. I would suggest starting off with a few Trade For Photo shoots. Then when comfortable approach other photographers with your ideas & go & conquer the modeling world with your head held high.

As a model youve had the opportunity to wear a variety of different styles, but what would we catch you in on an off duty day? What would you call your fashion sense and how has this evolved through your modeling career?

On an off duty day, I am usually found just wearing a comfy oversized hoodie & sweat pants. I like to be as comfortable as possible when I am at home with my fur babes. I love a pair of leggings with a tank & cardigan. It all depends upon my mood & the weather on that particular day. I would say my fashion sense could be a mixture of boudoir pinup, goth, metal. My style always has an edgy mood to it. I like to embrace my individuality.

What are you some of your favorite places to shop your style?

I like shopping at unique clothing stores like Torrid or Hot Topic. I love Vampire Freaks & even Addition Elle.
