Reconnecting with Yourself: My Body has changed – but I haven’t

Within the past year a lot has changed. I’ve lost almost 75 pounds since last fall. As a plus-size, curvy model, this change came with disappointment from fans online as well as praise from family and friends.

For me, it started with a bout of intensely stressful times which caused me to slip into a depression. This depression resulted in a medication change that took my appetite away. Not having an appetite at all is a new experience for me. I may not feel hungry; however, if you put a delicious meal in front of me you can bet it will all be eaten up.

I have also been fighting with some health issues that I’m having a hard time navigating or even getting diagnosed. All of these factors together have caused my body to shift into a new home that I wasn’t trying for but am learning to love and accept. As long as I am taking care of myself in the best way that I possibly can then I am showing my body the love it deserves.

My hope in writing this piece is to create a dialogue around how we treat bodily changes in ourselves and others. This shoot with no makeup or hairstyling, no retouching or editing, signifies the nakedness and raw beings we sometimes all need to see in order to connect with ourselves.
