A Guest Article by Emma Medieros

Anyone else want to burn their pj’s after wearing them 24/7 in lockdown for four months? Like many of you, I have been absolutely starved for style, glamour, and a night out with my fellow full-figured fashionistas! While that’s not quite possible yet, Full Figured Fashion Week https://www.instagram.com/fffweek/ (AKA, the “Oscars” of the plus industry), heard our cries for curves and launched a virtual version of their iconic annual fashion week.

Since 2009, FFFWeek, created by mogul and mentor Gwen Devoe (https://www.instagram.com/moguldiva/) and her tremendous team, has successfully brought plus-size and size-inclusive brands together with shoppers, influencers, and industry professionals with events such as runway shows, industry panels, the ever-popular All White (clothing, that is) cruise, and, of course, shopping! Judgement is banned, inclusivity is embraced, and individuality is all-important.

This year’s unique virtual event kicked off on Thursday, June 25, with special welcome messages by Gwen, celebrity stylist and TV personality, Timothy Snell (https://www.instagram.com/timothysnellone/), and celebrity stylist, designer, and author, Susan Moses (https://www.instagram.com/susanmosesnyc/).

Event Number One was the “Plus Industry Town Hall” forum, moderated by Plus Model Magazine (https://www.instagram.com/plusmodelmag/) Editor-In-Chief Madeline Jones, which featured discussions and debates on the state of the industry from a wide variety of experts such as LaKisha Zevarra, designer of Z by Zevarra (https://www.instagram.com/zbyzevarra/), Lisa Schoenberger, plus super blogger of Mustang Sally Two (https://www.instagram.com/mustangsallytwo/), Mickey Armstrong, founder of District of Curves Full Figured Fashion Network (https://www.instagram.com/districtofcurves/), Tawana Blassingame, CEO & founder of Queen Size Magazine (https://www.instagram.com/queensizemagazine/), Hannah Nodskov, custom designer of Hannah Caroline Couture (https://www.instagram.com/hannahcarolinecouture/), Michael Moss, founder of Big Man Culture (https://www.instagram.com/bigmanculture/), Gigi Biggins of J Biggins Consulting (https://www.instagram.com/volup2s1/), plus model Lynx Garcia (https://www.instagram.com/supersizespanishfly/), and (drumroll, please), yours truly, the president of Medeiros Fashion PR (https://www.instagram.com/medeirosfashionpr/), the FIRST public relations firm in the U.S. to specialize in the plus-size fashion industry!

The fantastic fashion commenced the next day at the Boutique Fashion Showcase, which featured daring designs by Therese Marie Collection (https://www.instagram.com/official_tmccollection/), flirty and fun styles from Honey’s Child Boutique (https://www.instagram.com/honeyschildboutique/, flowy and funky outfits by Our Glass (https://www.instagram.com/shopourglass/), and eye-catching African pieces from Obioma (https://www.instagram.com/myobioma/). Of course, in the virtual world, these artists had to get creative- some hosted backyard runway shows with select models and some embraced the showroom environment, giving viewers a complete tour of each chic piece for several minutes.

About the Author:

Emma Medeiros is the president and founder of Medeiros Fashion PR (https://www.medeirosfashionpr.com/), the FIRST public relations firm in the US to specialize in the plus size fashion industry. Based in NYC, Emma received her degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Boston’s Emerson College and started Medeiros Fashion Public Relations in 2015 after realizing that, out of the thousands of fashion public relations firms in the US, not ONE of them specialized in this exploding industry. With a mixture of class and sass, the goal of Medeiros Fashion Public Relations is to place plus size fashion on an equal footing with straight size fashion. Emma declares, “There’s absolutely NO reason for them to be separate and, once I accomplish that, I can die a happy woman!”

Plus size and size inclusive designers, retailers, models, etc, can book their FREE consultation with Medeiros Fashion PR at emma@medeirosfashionpr.com.
